The recent unveiling of a high-definition image from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope marks a momentous achievement in space exploration and astrophysics. This stunning image showcases the remnants of the Cassiopeia A (Cas A) supernova, captured in extraordinary detail by the telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam). Revealed as part of the White House's 2023 Christmas celebration in its first-ever Advent calendar, the image offers a breathtaking view of the expanding shell of material from the supernova slamming into the star's pre-explosion gas. Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy Danny Milisavljevic from Purdue University, leading the JWST research team, expressed awe at the newfound clarity in observing the remnants, which provide transformational insights into the star's explosive demise.

Situated about 11,000 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia, the Cas A supernova remnant is estimated to have exploded around 340 years ago. This image not only showcases the dramatic aftermath of a stellar explosion but also reveals features that have left researchers stunned. The James Webb Space Telescope, launched in December 2021, continues to redefine our understanding of the universe, bringing to light new and unexpected features within the inner shell of the supernova remnant. These observations, previously invisible in earlier images, underscore the telescope's role in expanding our knowledge of the cosmos and its complex phenomena.

    All images are cropped to fit the selected size within +/- .5". Therefore, some part of the image may not appear in the final print, when comparing to the online thumbnail. This missing part may appear on the sides or the top and bottom. This is a standard printing practice so that the finished product will fit standard frame sizes. This cropping is the default action.

    If you would like uncropped images, tell us by putting a note in the comment section at Checkout. Keep in mind that the uncropped image size will always be smaller than the ordered size.

    The actual sizes of objects in the image may not vary within 1/2" due to printer resizing during the final print imaging on the printers.

    $4.99 Flat shipping for small Unframed Prints

    • Orders 11x14 and smaller that fit in a smaller mailer will be shipped flat by USPS First Class for $4.99 to anywhere within the US.

    Unframed Prints larger than 11x14

    • Our Premium and Fine Art prints larger than 11x14 will be carefully rolled, and shipped in a sturdy tube.

    Large Size & Custom Size Products

    • Products over 40" long that are shipped flat, such as MetalPrints, may require freight shipping. We can provide freight quotes for these orders. Please allow additional time for the delivery.
    • Custom sizes may incur an increased shipping charge due to special handling required.

    Unframed prints under 11x14 are $4.99 for Economy USA orders since they can be sent out flat. For larger size unframed prints, they are $6.99. For all else, shipping cost are based on price per item. Please see below.
