About our Prints

About Print Quality
We use Epson 7600/9600's with UltraChrome inksets. According to an independent lab, Wilhelm Imaging Research, these inks when printed on Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper will produce images that last greater than 100 years before noticable fading.

For some of our images, we are offing a Fine Art Paper option. For our traditional prints, we use a high quality luster photographic paper, with over 100 years of fade resistance using UltraChrome pigmented inks.

The Fine Art paper option delivers an even higher, museum-quality, standard of excellence. We use Epson UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper, the same paper as the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. These Fine Art Papers have additional desirable conservation characteristics: We like Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper because it delivers highly saturated prints by offering maximum ink coverage and a high D-Max for true photographic reproductions. Its 10-mil RC base gives prints a photographic feel, and keeps the paper cockle-free.

We were convinced when we found out The Boston Museum of Fine Arts had chosen this printer and inkset to reproduce their Archival Replica art collection.

Why we use Matte and Luster Surface Paper

Unless otherwise noted, we use a matte and luster surface paper. We do this because these papers have greater archival characteristics than photo glossy papers. The inks adhere well to the paper surfaces. Additionally, matte surface papers produce high color saturations. And, a matte surface eliminates glare when framed behind glass.

We can, however, produce a high quality high gloss print of any image. If you want this treatment, please tell us in the Comment section of your order, or by a follow up email.

Each print image has been digitally premastered from very large scan files. This results in very high quality, high resolution images. 6-color CcYMmK inks insure a full color gamut, and a faithful execution of the orginal color information from the observatory.

Many images from our catalog were obtained from unpublished RAW image sources, so color balance, cropping, and contract enhancements have been applied to provide an aesthetically pleasing print.

While many images are "True Color", others are not. When not, we try to mention it in the product description.
